Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

 

Weddings are wonderful occasions of celebration and the joining together of two people and the creation of a new family.  The vicar is happy to talk to couples who are thinking about getting married and to explain eligibility for each church and also the legal requirements regarding nationality and residency.

Two of our churches have held many weddings – St John’s at Chelford and All Saints at Marthall. 

St Peter’s in Lower Withington has had one wedding celebrated there under a special licence.

The vicar will meet with you early on in your preparations and will recommend a book that will be helpful in thinking about life after the wedding day and will be available to answer any questions that you have regarding the wedding day itself as well as married life together.  Being prepared for marriage is very important, even if you have been together for some time.  The expectations of others as well as yourselves may change with marriage and being able to talk freely to one another on any issues will help to set you up for a rewarding life together.
Other meetings will be arranged to finalise the wedding day preparations, organise the reading of banns and a rehearsal just prior to the wedding where we can together walk through the service with others who have a particular role on the day.  Each of these meetings will give opportunity for talking and asking questions.

If you wish the Vicar to conduct a funeral service for your loved one at St John the Evangelist, Chelford; St Peter's, Lower Withngton;  All Saints, Marthall or at the Crematorium; please contact your funeral director in the first instance.  The funeral director will book the service and you will then be contacted by the Vicar to offer you support and to make arrangements for the funeral service.

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

 

At all three of our churches we welcome parents who want their babies or children to be baptised.  You will need to live in the parish or have a qualifying connection to have your child baptised in one of our churches.  Baptism is often called a Christening.  It is an occasion when the family and church come together to give thanks for the child and to ask for God’s blessing.  The service marks the beginning of the child’s life within the family of the Christian church.

The parents and godparents will make promises before God in committing to bring the child up within the Christian faith.  As churches we would like to help you to do that.

Adults also get baptised, not everyone was christened as a baby or child and each of us has a different journey of faith – coming for baptism as an adult is a little different as you are able to explore faith and make the promises for yourself.
